The challenge

An extended-stay hotel where guests expect quiet, consistent comfort night after night: 84 guest rooms, a meeting room, and event space — dozens of independent zones, each with its own schedule and thermostat, running around the clock.

The solution

A ClimateMaster water-source heat pump for essentially every room and common area, all tied into one shared ground loop. Excel's own rigs drilled the wells on site, a crane set the largest units on the roof, and we installed the hotel's domestic water heaters too.

The result

Every guest controls their own space while the whole hotel draws on one highly efficient loop instead of a roof full of conventional condensers — and Excel still maintains and services the building today. One system, one accountable company.

The design

Dozens of units, one ground loop

A building like this isn't served by one big machine — it's served by many. Every square on this diagram is a zone with its own water-source heat pump: every guest room, the lobby, the meeting room.

Per-room units mean every guest sets their own temperature. But instead of dozens of condensers baking on the roof, every unit quietly trades heat with the same buried loop field — 67–69°F earth, every hour of every day.

The loop field was engineered, drilled, and installed by the same Excel team that set the equipment — our own rigs, on site in Paris.

Before there was a hotel, there was a loop field: wells drilled and trenched across the open site, then connected, buried, and built over.
Install day

Bringing in a crane

The largest units — the ones serving the lobby, meeting room, and shared spaces — live on the roof. Getting them there took more than a forklift: Excel brought in a crane to hoist each unit up and over the parapet and lower it onto the membrane roof, with the crew rigging, spotting, and guiding every landing by hand.

It's the kind of coordination that only works when one company controls the whole job. Excel handled the full mechanical scope: drilling the geothermal wells, setting and piping every heat pump, and installing the hotel's domestic water heaters — so the building's comfort and its hot water both run on the same dependable system.

And the job didn't end at commissioning. Excel continues to maintain and service the hotel today, keeping dozens of units running reliably for guests in every season. For the owners, that means one phone call.
